poemscol.sty: A LaTeX style package for typesetting traditional critical editions of poetry as described by the MLA’s Committee on Scholarly Editions. Features include automatic line numbering; multiple series of endnotes or layers of footnotes tied to line numbers (or ranges of line numbers); automatic generation of table of contents; automatic marking of cases where stanza breaks fall on page breaks; running headers of the form “Textual Notes to pp. xx–yy” in the notes sections; generation of index of titles and first lines; cross-references by page or line; centering of the verse block on the longest line; and marginal notes. Endnote sections (or footnote layers) for explanatory notes, emendations, and textual collations are pre-defined. New endnote sections or footnote layers can be defined on the fly. The package also provides tools for parallel-text editions. Poemscol can also provide critical apparatus for short prose passages, whether marked up by line numbers or by paragraph and sentence number. Unlike many other critical edition packages, poemscol can easily handle lemmas with overlapping line ranges. The package is also highly customizable.
endheads.sty: A LaTeX style package for providing running headers of the form “notes to pp. xx–yy” for endnotes sections, for users of endnotes.sty
edmargin.sty: A LaTeX style package for simplified critical editions of poetry, modeled on the form of David V. Erdman and Harold Bloom’s edition of The Poetry and Prose of William Blake. Edmargin puts markers in the margins (the markers are different for each kind of endnote) referring to the page in the endnotes sections to which the note refers. In the notes sections notes are marked just with the relevant lemma, rather than with line numbers. Endnote sections are provided with running headers of the form “Notes to pp. xx–yy”.
